The Inhabitants of the city are called “Cabaretins” and “Cabaretines” . The Name Cabaret came from the colonial owner M. de Cabaret, Comte d'Arquin who was the Governor of St. Domingue in 1711. Another story stated that the name came from Mr. Baret, who was a tavern's owner between the plantations of Deschapelle and Duclos (Kay Baret)

The Economy of Cabaret
The corridor between Titanyen and Cabaret along National Route 1 is one of the fastest growing regions of Haiti. Thousands of people have settled in the nearby areas of Canaan since the 2010 earthquake, and this growth is expanding northward along National Route 1 towards central Cabaret. The corridor is an important tourism and economic development zone, for example, the GOC university campus, the road linking Titayen (Cabaret) to Saut-D’eau (Central Plateau), etc…..
The coastline is home to several beach resorts, an international port recently opened in Lafiteau, along with the development of a 300-hectare industrial park. CINA and Topline Materials are two aggregate and construction materials companies currently based in the corridor.
Cabaret is one of the main food producing areas that supply Port au Prince with food products. The banana fig, the bean, the sweet potato, the corn, are, among others, the various food products that one can easily find in this commune of the department of the West. Fruits and vegetables are also grown in this municipality. The potential is still enormous today in Cabaret, although exposed to natural disasters, due to its configuration. At least 3 deadly floods have been recorded since 2004 in this very flat town, founded in 1961.
